Virtual Learning Events

Throughout the year we will be facilitating a number of webinars, town halls, and other virtual learning experiences on various topics related to teaching and learning in PHE. These will feature teachers and leaders in the PHE field from across BC and Canada (when and where possible). In many cases, these events will be for PHE BC members only, and those wanting to join without a membership can purchase an appropriate membership based on their current professional role (see below for more info on membership).

Teaching Sexual Health: An introduction

In this practical online workshop, teachers will be introduced to various theoretical models of sexual health education as a foundation for building lessons that best suit their student demographic. Jannika will model a mini-lesson, and provide an opportunity to ask anonymous questions. Comprehensive sexual health resources and ready-to-go lesson plans to equip teachers and bolster confidence will be provided to all participants. This workshop will also cover the policies surrounding sexual health education as well as suggestions on liaising with parents, administration, and community partners.

Jannika is a district-helping teacher in Surrey, BC. Currently, she is working on developing a sexual health & abuse prevention curriculum for students with cognitive and intellectual disabilities. Jannika mostly supports teachers in teaching sexual health but continues to teach sexual health to students of all learning profiles, K-12.
