Hybrid conference (in person and/or via Zoom) at Douglas College in New Westminster.
The 2023 Physical and Health Education in BC Provincial Teachers Conference is hosted by Douglas College in partnership with Physical and Health Education in BC to provide physical and health educators with a meaningful day of professional development. Themed “Inclusion and Belonging in Physical and Health Education,” this year’s conference will feature a variety of workshops that will build your competencies and keep you informed and connected to the field of physical and health education in B.C.
Staying Connected
Whether in person or online, this year’s conference promises to be another great event for professional learning and networking opportunities. To connect with and share your experiences with others, use the hashtag #PSAday on X (Twitter).
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The AGM will take place from 12:00-1:00 in the main gymnasium at Douglas College. This year, we are proposing some changes to our constitution that will be presented, discussed, and voted on (only BCTF members can vote). Please see an overview of the proposed changes below:
Membership Fees
Proposal: to increase membership fees by $5 for all membership types. If approved, fee increase would go into effect on January 01, 2024.
- Pre-Service/TTOCs/Retirees membership goes from $15 to $20
- BCTF teacher membership fee goes from $25 to $30
- Non-BCTF teacher membership fees goes from $50 to $55
Rationale: to help with the rising costs associated with delivering professional learning experiences, resources, and other PSA related initiatives.
Nomination for PHE BC President
Proposal: to be nominated for the role of PHE BC President, the individual must: 1) currently serve on the PHE BC executive committee; 2) have served for at least one full term (i.e., 2 years) on the PHE BC executive committee.
Rationale: To ensure the person running for the role of association president has an in-depth understanding, experience with, and familiarity with the association’s commitments, goals, and action plans. Other PSAs follow this model after experiencing hardships with the election of a new president who was not familiar with the role, goals, and commitments of the PSA.
Duties of the Executive Committee
Proposal: to move the identified roles for the executive committee members from the PHE BC Constitution to a PHE BC Policies and Procedures manual.
Rationale: To provide flexibility in determining roles and responsibilities for the executive committee members.
Currently, roles are outlined in the PHE BC Constitution, and if any changes are desired, they must be proposed and voted on at the AGM. Moving these duties to a policies and procedures manual allows edits and changes to happen as needed and without having to wait for membership to vote on them at the AGM.
Term Length for Past-President
Proposal: make the role of the past president last for a maximum of 2 years (i.e., one term) on the PHE BC Executive Committee.
Rationale: To be consistent with all other roles on the PHE BC Executive Committee. Currently, the length of the past president role is unclear in the PHE BC Constitution.
